Mechatronic Technician
Role Overview:
We are looking for a Mechatronics Technician to join our hardware team and help build the electromechanical systems powering our stationary counter-drone defense platform. You’ll work hands-on with precision motion assemblies, sensor integration, and laser alignment, supporting the development of real-time robotic systems for drone detection and mitigation.
In this role, you will be deeply involved in prototype assembly, calibration, and testing, working closely with engineers across robotics, electrical, and embedded software. You’ll troubleshoot systems at the intersection of hardware and software, contribute to design validation, and help us iterate quickly on critical subsystems in a fast-paced lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and calibrate 2-axis motion platforms, integrating high-precision motors, encoders, and control components for turret-level tracking.
- Integrate and test sensors, including IMUs, GPS, cameras, LiDAR, and RF modules, ensuring reliable communication and stable mounting within the system.
- Align and validate laser modules for targeting, ranging, or detection, using optical calibration tools and adhering to laser safety procedures.
- Troubleshoot complex systems, including mechanical alignment, electrical connectivity, firmware behavior, and communication interfaces.
- Build and maintain test rigs and automation tools for performance validation, repeatability testing, and long-duration stress testing.
- Interpret schematics and technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and assembly procedures.
- Collaborate closely with engineers across disciplines to iterate on prototypes, suggest design improvements, and assist with hardware bring-up and validation.
- Document builds, test procedures, and performance results, contributing to internal knowledge bases and supporting repeatable manufacturing processes.
Required Qualifications
- Vocational training or equivalent experience in mechatronics, mechanical/electrical engineering, or technical systems integration (e.g., Mechatroniker, Feinwerkmechaniker, Elektroniker).
- Proven experience assembling and troubleshooting electromechanical systems involving motors, sensors, and embedded hardware.
- Familiarity with motion control systems, including encoder tuning, servo drives, and motor controllers.
- Experience handling and aligning optical or laser-based systems, with a strong understanding of laser safety standards.
- Basic knowledge of microcontrollers, PLCs, or embedded systems, including ability to read firmware logs or interface with configuration tools.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics, and work confidently with lab tools (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, alignment fixtures).
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced prototyping environment with minimal supervision and evolving requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and high standards for quality, precision, and safety.
- Fluent in German or English (both preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with robotics or aerospace-grade components (e.g., gimbals, servos, environmental sealing, vibration damping).
- Familiarity with RF systems or EMI/EMC best practices.
- Comfort with Linux-based tools for testing interfaces or logging sensor data.
- Experience with structured documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, Notion, Markdown, or LaTeX).
- Familiarity with low-volume or custom manufacturing workflows (e.g., small-batch CNC, 3D printing, harness assembly).
Who You Are (Startup Mindset)
- Hands-on and proactive: You love building and debugging complex systems, and you’re not afraid to dive into mechanical, electrical, or software issues to keep development moving.
- Fast and flexible: You thrive in an agile, experimental environment and can adapt to changing specs or priorities without losing momentum.
- Collaborative: You enjoy working closely with engineers and can communicate clearly about problems, solutions, and risks.
- Detail-oriented and diligent: You care deeply about doing things right—from cable routing to calibration—and take pride in high-quality work that others can build on.
About Us
